Our installation of Mozart and da Ponte's Don Giovanni casts the serial seducer as a Catholic priest who has abused the power of his office to satisfy his insatiable desires. Set in one of the oldest surviving gothic-revival sacred spaces in New York, Edwin Cahill's immersive production, with costumes by Bradon McDonald, and lights designed by Yael Lubetzky, begins where Don Giovanni's story must end: souls living out their eternal judgment.
The ghosts of Don Giovanni, his victims, and his enemies are brought to life by Ryan McAdams, leading a 32–piece chamber orchestra, and Philip Cutlip, starring as the corrupt pastor, whose story's end catapults the audience from the purgatory of souls into an after-party celebrating the triumph of the light of truth.
Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Italian libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte. Supertitles will be provided in English.
RUN TIME: APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS 15 MINUTES WITH ONE 15 MINUTE INTERMISSION.
